Planning and Implementation of TTR at a Regional Campus

Homan Wai, MD, FACP and Susan Schenck

University of Virginia, School of Medicine

Designing a curriculum for a regional or satellite campus can be filled with opportunities and challenges. Participants will learn from the experience of UVA School of Medicine as they designed and implemented a comparable Transition to Residency (TTR) program at a newly established regional campus.

Homan Wai, MD, FACP serves as the Internship Readiness Course Director at the Inova regional campus of University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine.  He also serves as the Clerkship Director of Internal Medicine at the campus and co-directs an elective on climate change and health.  He has been a practicing adult hospitalist since 2009.

Susan has been the Inova Program Coordinator for 2 years. She coordinates the Clerkship Readiness Course (formerly known as Transition), Bedside to Community, Intersessions, Patient Student Partnership, Critical Care Medicine, and Internship Readiness Course. Prior to joining Inova, she worked for 17 years in higher education – first at American University, then at George Washington University – in various roles, most recently as Course Materials Manager at the GW Bookstore.
