Transition To Residency Symposium 2026

The ninth iteration of a symposium that started in late 2017 happened on October 14, 2026. The Symposium is always free to all attendees and was an interactive half-day with a plenary speaker, breakout sessions, poster/oral presentations, and networking opportunities. The 2027 Symposium will occur in the Fall of 2027.

The transition from medical school to residency remains one of the most challenging stretches in medical training, and best practices for transition courses are being established. This presentation reports findings from a 12-program, multicenter survey of Transitional Year residents examining how bootcamp attendance and prior competency-specific training relate to self-reported preparedness across ten clinical competencies identified by program directors as common areas of struggle. We will review the background and rationale behind the project, walk through our methods and results, and discuss the persistent gaps.
